I remember this one being particularly difficult for the catholic choir to learn. Some of these songs took a long while to rehearse.
This song as all of them were written at our home in Avondale, La. The cover photo shows me and my dad in the backyard with me posing on a pecan tree branch. Or was it the cedre? I remember the moment the pic was taken as with the other. I specifically remember my tummy getting a little queasy as i was lifted up to the branch. It was fun though.
lyrics
He could have come down from the cross
But for my sake and yours He endured
Though the nails pierced His hands
And the spikes pierced His feet
And the crown pierced His skull he refused
To come down from the cross just for us
He could have come down from the cross
But for my sins and yours He withstood
Though the blood that He shed
From His feet to His head
Was so heavy it weighted Him down
He refused to come down just for us
When I think of the way
That they mocked Him that day
If ye be God get ye down from the cross
For all our sin He endured til the end
And conquered evil and death for all men
He could have come down from the cross
But for my sake and yours He endured
Though the nails pierced His hands
And the spikes pierced His feet
And the crown pierced His skull
He refused to come down from the cross just for us
When I think of the way
That they mocked Him that day
If ye be God get ye down from the cross
For all our sin He endured til the end
And conquered evil and sin by rising again
He could have come down from the cross
But for my sins and yours He withstood
Though the blood that He shed
From His feet to His head
Was so heavy it weighted Him down
He refused to come down just for us
