I remember this one well. My dad playing it in the music room. One of his first songs I believe. He nicked it from Bobby Goldsboro's Honey. The line that sticks out in my head is "where did my father go?" because he sang it as if he was in pain. As if he were Jesus on the cross. This one wasn't meant for the choir. He sang it with his trio he had around the same time called The Voices of Praise with my dad on bass and vocals, Richard Pitre on guitar and vocals and Wenona Williams on vocals. Such a great blend of voices. I used to love hearing them rehearse.
lyrics
See the tree that He died on
Two thousand years fore I was born
And all for me
It hurts so bad down deep inside
To think of how my savior died
Upon a tree
They placed the crown upon His head
Pierced His side and still He said
I love them so
And I can hear the lonely cry He uttered
When He screamed
Where did my father go?
And Jesus I miss You
And I'm being good
I'd love to be with You
If only I could
They buried Him that fateful day
And rolled the stone to block the way
But praise His name
Three days from then He rose again
And left that tomb they placed Him in
Salvation gained
And Jesus I miss You
And I'm being good
I'd love to be with You
If only I could
I'd love to be with You
If only I could
